Recently IBM made an announcement concerning their Cognos division picking SUSE Linux. IBM paid $4.9 billion for Cognos.
Cognos runs business intelligence software on the IBM Mainframe.
The story written by Pam Derringer on Searchenterpriselinux.com covers the details pretty good.
You can read it here
In the article, Pam mentions the word Business 6 times as she talks about the Business Intelligence software that will be deployed to SUSE Linux.
What is significant here, is that this small story adds to the building block of success that is beginning to surround Novell and its Business-Driven Linux strategy.
Announcements with IBM and Microsoft help cement in the minds of the customer that Novell does business with Linux, whether that business is running a school, a city, or one of the largest corporations in the world like Walmart.
This is perfect marketing on Novell's part. They don't have to spend a lot of money to get other people to reinforce their position as the strongest business Linux platform.
In the long run this will benefit all of Novell's business units, not just the Linux or Mainframe business.
Even though the GroupWise crowd might like to see these kinds of stories about their product, the current reality is that SUSE Linux is the future of the company and good news about SUSE is good news for GroupWise.

Do you think Novell could do anything which would accelerate them owning the word "Business" with respect to Linux?
We like the phrase "Business-Driven Linux", it's a consise, clear and powerful message for the market Novell wants to lead.
