Introduction
The Icon Editor in Novell IDM Designer enables you to create customized icons for your drivers and applications.
Predefined templates and images are available to start creating a custom branded icon, which can be further enriched with different background images and colors or overlay images.
You can use the Icon Editor for:
- Editing Driver Icons
- Editing Application Icons
Editing Driver Icons
You can use the Icon Editor to create a new driver icon.
- Select the required driver in the modeler, right-click, then click Properties.
- Select the iManager Icon page. The right pane displays the default icon.

Note: Click Browse to navigate to and select an image file stored in the system. The formats supported are PNG, JPEG, GIF, and BMP. - Click New to open the Icon editor.

- Select the Background tab to add a background color or image to the icon.

Use the Background Color field to launch the color palette and select the color.
Use the Background Image field to select and use a background image.
Note: The background image displays parameter that can be configured in the Settings tab. - To display text in the icon, select the Labels tab and click Add

Specify a name for the label in the Text column. To create multi-line label, create separate entries in each line.
The Offset X and Offset Y parameters control the label placement. You can also modify the size, color, and font according to requirement.
- To add an overlay image to the icon, select the Overlay Images tab, then click Add

To change an image, click on the cell in the File column. Click the icon towards the right side of the file and browse to the image you want to use.
The Offset X and Offset Y parameters control the image placement. The size field adjusts the size of the image in pixels.
- To configure the display parameters for the background image, select the Settings tab. The controls are active only if a background image is added through the Background tab.

The image display can be modified by using the Settings tab, which includes controls for Brightness, Hue, Saturation, and Gamma.
Color changes occur in real time and you are able to see the effect of your changes as you make them.
- Select Derivations > Application to create a similar iManager icon for this application.

This transfers the custom icon to the driver or application’s iManager properties, which can be viewed in the driver properties page, under iManager.
Note: Some icons don’t convert cleanly between the Driver and Application icon formats, so you might need to clean it up after you create it. - Click Preview to view the image.
- Click Update to save the changes.

Editing Application Icons
You can use the Icon Editor to create a new Application icon.
- Open the properties of the application. To do this, right-click the application in the modeler and select Properties.
- In the Properties pane, select the General page. The right pane displays the default icon.
