Developers are always looking for useful tools to help them with the many aspects of software development. From IDEs and sample code to distribution packaging tools, there's always the hope that a tool can be found to help speed up and ease the resources needed to complete a given project.

Well, if you haven't checked out SUSE Studio, now is your chance to see what this tool can do for you. Novell is now accepting applications for the SUSE Studio Beta Program for Independent Software Vendors. This is your opportunity to get some hands on access to see SUSE Studio in action.

In a nutshell SUSE Studio allows you to create an appliance, tuned to your specific needs. You pick the packages needed (and just the packages needed) for your application, do any configuration required and then SUSE Studio will build your appliance. The beauty is that you can create your appliance as a Live CD/DVD, a VMWare virtual appliance, a portable USB key bootable on systems that support booting from USB or a hard disk image that can be used to load your appliance on a piece of hardware. You can even perform installs from the Live CD/DVD or USB keys.

There is even a webinar coming up on May 12, 2009 titled "Virtual Appliances in Under 10 Minutes with SUSE Studio from Novell".

For details on the beta and a link to register for the webinar go to http://developer.novell.com/wiki/index.php/SUSEStu... .
