In February 2008, Novell implemented a policy requiring customer to purchase maintenance in order to receive support directly from Novell. For more than a year, Novell has continued to provide credit card support to those customers who did not have maintenance, as we searched for a qualified partner to transition this business to.

Effective May 11, 2009, Novell Technical Services will refer all credit card support to our qualified partner, Alternative Technology. Alternative Technology offers global technical support during customer business hours for single incidents via credit card. Non-English and after-hours support will be available at an additional fee. We highly recommend customers consider purchasing maintenance for their Novell products through Novell's VLA or MLA buying programs. Maintenance is the combination of software updates, training and technical support to help customers be most successful with their Novell products. There are many benefits to having maintenance, including unlimited access to Novell's support organization.
