At the Enterprise 2.0 show in San Francisco today, Novell previewed Novell Pulse, the first real-time collaboration platform for the enterprise. Code-named “Cockpit,” Novell Pulse began as a breakout project in late 2008. Since that time, the Novell Pulse development team has brought the vision to life, creating a unique combination of e-mail, document authoring and social messaging tools with robust security and management capabilities.

Because Novell will be one of the first major Wave providers in the industry, Google invited Novell to share the stage during today's Enterprise 2.0 keynote on “Integrating Google Wave into the Enterprise.” Andy Fox, Novell Vice President of Engineering, delivered a demonstration of Novell Pulse and a technology preview of the product leveraging the Wave Federation Protocol. This was an exciting proof point of Novell's commitment to interoperable enterprise collaboration—one that will enable Novell Pulse users to communicate in real time with users of any other Wave provider.

Novell Pulse is scheduled for a select beta in early 2010 and a release mid-year. The initial release will be for cloud deployments, with an on-premise option coming in a subsequent release.
