Setting a Vacation "Out of Office" Rule in GroupWise 2012

We were checking out the keywords people regularly search for on Novell.com (using our site search as well as Google), and spotted a recurring desire to know how to set a vacation rule. This is no great surprise. We all love to take vacations, and particularly love to let our co-workers know that we are taking them. This is one of life's simple pleasures. And to make it even more pleasurable, GroupWise 2012 has vastly streamlined the way you set it all up.

How to set up GroupWise Monitor 2012 to start with the computer on Windows Server 2008 R2

GroupWise monitor 2012 cannot be run as a service (as of this writing). The work around for this is to use Windows Task Scheduler to start the application when the machine starts up.

GroupWise Migration: Ready, Set – Wait, it costs how much?

In 1971, the first ever email was sent. Just forty-one years later, email is the industry standard for corporate communication, with the average corporate user sending and receiving 112 emails per day. With this communication tool so critical to any business’s bottom line, the list of valid reasons to disrupt it are few and far between. Enterprises considering migrating from Novell GroupWise to Microsoft Exchange should consider what it means in terms of costs and business disruption. It’s not just about the hardware and licensing, IT needs to consider the IT opportunity cost as well as overall user productivity.

Why People Love Novell

We recently asked Cool Solutions readers to tell us what they love about Novell, and how they've managed to keep Novell in their organization over the years, despite fierce competition and changes in fashion.

The results revealed a unique loyalty to the classic Novell product lines, and a highly pragmatic line of reasoning: if it works, why replace it?

Here is a nice sampling of responses, from people who have come to rely on Novell's technologies to make life easier for end users and IT alike.

Using GroupWise to Log Calls In KACE K1000

We needed to get users to log calls via emails to our KACE K1000 Appliance. The KACE uses its own internal smtp server and sets its own email address as username@kacename.dnsname. As the appliance is within our LAN and our smtp relay is outside, where we have no control, we could not simply add the kbox domain as a subdomain. And for some reason, even though the appliance name can be resolved by dns, GroupWise would not send email to it. There are plenty of tips on how to make this work on other email servers but none for GroupWise, but after much trial and error we finally got it to work. Hope this helps save someone else some time.
