PROBLEM: After changing Group Policies on XP/2000, they often don't seem to apply until the workstation has been rebooted a SECOND time.
This is due to the fact that, by default, XP builds the desktop simultaneously with script processing. It is possible to see the desktop before all policies have been applied.
SOLUTION: There is a group policy under Computer\System\Scripts called "Run Logon Scripts Synchronously". This setting forces 2000/XP to wait before building the desktop until all scripts have run.
By delaying the building of the desktop, that second reboot may no longer be necessary.
