Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 SP2 Now Available

Novell is pleased to announce the general availability of Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 Support Pack 2 (SP2). The latest release includes a number of product quality enhancements, as well as opening the door to the new capabilities described below:

  • Auditing files in NSS on Linux is now possible with Novell Sentinel
  • FTP gateway for remote server access
  • Integrated migration tools enhanced for easier upgrades from NetWare

With NetWare reaching the end of general support in March of 2010, you should be making plans to upgrade now. With Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 SP2, there's every reason to be confident in doing so. Entitled customers can download the product here. Additional information is available on the product home page. Finally, for upgrade-related offers and programs, click here.

Open Enterprise Server and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server Compatibility

Please note that Open Enterprise Server 2 SP2 is compatible with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP3. Open Enterprise Server customers with the new support pack are free to deploy SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP3. Open Enterprise Server customers who do not have the latest support pack should NOT deploy SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP3. Intelligence has been built into the installation process to warn Open Enterprise Server customers if they are trying to deploy an unsupported SUSE Linux Enterprise Server service pack. If you see any of these screen shots DO NOT proceed with the installation.

Citrix Statement of Support for Domain Services for Windows

This week, Citrix posted an official statement of support for Domain Services for Windows. This statement means XenDesktop 3 and 4 customers can leverage Domain Services for Windows to reduce costs and increase productivity through Windows server consolidation. This is a key validation point for our technology and something many of you will be interested to know. In addition, a Citrix Sales Engineer has created a tool that helps you set up XenDesktop in a Domain Services for Windows environment. The tool is available here.

Disclaimer: As with everything else at Cool Solutions, this content is definitely not supported by Novell (so don't even think of calling Support if you try something and it blows up).

It was contributed by a community member and is published "as is." It seems to have worked for at least one person, and might work for you. But please be sure to test, test, test before you do anything drastic with it.
