Good NewsI just discovered that Novell has released a Windows version of OpenOffice.org Novell Edition on download.novell.com. (A buddy in Novell IS&T pointed this out to me.)Why would you want the “Novell Edition” instead of the version from OpenOffice.org? It comes down to early access to some killer features that are not yet available in the non-Novell edition. Let’s consider why Novell maintains a downstream edition of OpenOffice.org, and what some of the features in it are. (more…)

Cool Ted. Way to spread the OpenOffice love. If any one wants a good resource for learning how to make OpenOffice do more, hit http://openoffice.blogs.com/openoffice/ Solvieg Haugland was at Sun when they purchased StarOffice, so she has been working on this product for a long time. Lot's of good info on her blog.

Okay, you caught me. I took a screenshot from SLED10 SP1, so it shows version 2.1. My bad...I'll try to correct after BrainShare. :)

I've been waiting for an update to Novell's version of OpenOffice.org. Even Novell's 2.0.2 opened some Word docs better than OOo version 2.1. Looking forward to the 2.1 release from Novell!

I'm confused...
The article begins to state "I just discovered that Novell has released a Windows version of OpenOffice.org Novell Edition on download.novell.com.". The PNG image shows OpenOffice 2.1.
Then I look on download.novell.com, another story in itself. Type in openoffice, and there is nothing but "OpenOffice XML Translator" under Products. Then I remembered, the new download page leaves -much- to be desired. So I did a more specific search for "OpenOffice.org", which any good user-friendly search engine shouldn't require, and still the version listed for Windows is 2.0.4. Is this blog thread misleading, or is the Novell Download page somehow not showing the 2.1 version for Windows?

Aha, looks like Firefox cached Monday's page. Ted's comment from yesterday explains the version difference. My gripe regarding the Novell Download search still stands.. feedback submitted.
