A New Storage Approach
Historically, DBMS were invited to divide program and data. The idea was to have a single logic (DBMS) that is aware of all the data a company is working with and some clearly defined interfaces to access these data (SQL). The information is stored in few files in the file system of the underlying operating system. Today this view should be changed again ...

Configuring NetStorage on Novell Cluster Services using OES2 SP1 Linux, with Third-Party External Certificates
So you have a bunch of OES2 SP1 Linux nodes running in a cluster. You have followed the documentation in the NetStorage for Linux Administration Guide to setup, install and configure NetStorage to run in your cluster. All is working well, except your users get that nasty warning in their browser, every time they connect, because your NetStorage is using the default untrusted self-signed server certificates.
Wouldn't life be just great if we could get NetStorage to use a third-party minted one from a reputable trusted Certificate Authority.
Well, you can, here's how.

NetWare clusters-in-a-box
We were running out of file cache memory on our 6-node NetWare cluster, and we didn't have any money for new 64-bit servers and OES 2. Xen virtualization of NetWare allowed us to move certain services off of our larger cluster onto a pair of smaller clusters, on just two
servers. This allowed us to spread the file-serving load across all 6 nodes of the old cluster, and ease our memory problems. This is how we did it.

On Contract in Nottingham!
I am currently working on contract in Nottingham. I am involved in a number of projects, the most interesting of which recently was implementing Novell Storage Manager. It’s one of those Niche products that you may not have heard of, but it’s absolutely excellent at what it does. Novell Storage Manager is a policy based, event driven, storage management system primarily focused on the automatic provision of user home directories.
