Stand-Alone ZENWorks Imaging via PXE on WindowsXP Share

This tip describes setting up a Windows XP box to be used as an imaging server using Novell ZENworks' Imaging solution on a stand-alone Network. The XP box will host a DHCP server and a shared folder. Other clients will boot via PXE, the ZENworks SUSE Linux imaging OS, to create or restore images on the mounted shared folder.

Windows XP Universal Image and ZENworks Deployment

This article describes our imaging method, from creating the base/universal image to adding driver images and machine specific changes, then creating imaging scripts that will figure out which piece of hardware the image is being restored to and apply the correct imaging files. While this is one way to do it, it is by no means the only way. This is what has worked for us and I hope it will help someone else out there.

Firewall Settings for ZCM on Windows 2003

Having trouble imaging workstations in a WAN environment using ZCM? One likely cause is the Windows Firewall. Below is a sample MS-DOS batch file that opens in the ports on the firewall, and restricts the traffic to certain subnets! I even threw in the entry for Remote Desktop, also subnet-restricted.
