Migration from NetWare 6.5 SP7 to SLES10SP2-OES2SP1 Hiccup
After doing a pre-migration of a Volume from NetWare 6.5 SP7 to SLES10-SP2 w/ OES2-SP1 all of the file structures appeared to be correct. We did this "Pre-migration" in order to copy the bulk of our user files prior to doing a final sync and pointing to the new volume on the new server. But after the sync, we found that some of the source files and the destination files had the EXACT same size, creation date, and modified date, but the content was different. The idea was to have a single logic (DBMS) that is aware of all the data a company is working with and some clearly defined interfaces to access these data (SQL). The information is stored in few files in the file system of the underlying operating system. Today this view should be changed again ...

LJDT: Installed RPM Size
Sometimes I find myself wondering how big an installed RPM's files really are. Use a simple script to do all of the calculating of file sizes, plus see how to recreate the RPM from the system where the package is installed in the latest addition to Linux Just Does That.
