Assign iPrint Printers the FAST way
Let's face the fact, assigning iPrint printers in iManager, especially if the users are in a different container than the iPrint Printer, can become very tedious and time consuming. First you have to wait for the browse window to choose a printer, then wait for the browse window to browse for the users or groups, and finally select all of your users. Well what if you had 5 executives that needed to have access to every Xerox Printer in the organization and these printers existed in multiple containers? Let's say there were 35 of these printers. This could take hours. I'll demonstrate how to do it in less than 5 minutes.

GPTrustee
There are plenty of file system trustee backup mechanisms for both NetWare and OES2 Linux, but they all hurt my brain. Sure, XML is great and who doesn't love Linux but I wanted a simple Windows app that could read the trustees from a volume hosted by either NetWare or OES2 Linux, would store the results in a human readable and modifiable format, and which I could use to restore said trustees to a volume hosted by either NetWare or OES2 Linux. This is the app I came up with.

Challenge/Response IDM Driver Configuration
The ability to use Challenge/Response information for password reset information is one that Novell has offered for a long time. Setting default Challenge/Response values for a given user is not easily accomplished normally and can result in a new user getting prompted for data before they are familiar with business policies and the purpose of the prompts. Continue on to see how to set default, customized values for users using Novell Identity Manager (IDM) and some NMAS calls.

LJDT: Base64 Encoding
In computing there are two terms which are often confused: encoding and enciphering. One of them, with 'cipher' in its name, usually best refers to something that is cryptographically enciphered which means it was mathematically mangled in a fashion that the result, regardless of the input, is fairly random, patternless nonsense to the un-key-assisted eye. The other term refers to simply changing data from one form to another at is basic level. One type of encoding is 'base64' encoding, which is used through many areas of computing and can be explained much more-simply than most cryptographic cipher functions (in my opinion). This article is to show how, on many levels, Linux Just Does That.

ndsd-multi : a way to start multiple eDirectory instances simultaneously in Linux
Since the release of eDirectory 8.8.0 support for multiple instances of eDirectory on a single box has been available. Using the ndsconfig and especially the newer ndsmanage tool configuring multiple instances of eDirectory is also very easy to do. One feature that has been missing since that time has been the ability to start/stop multiple instances as easily as one can start/stop the first root-based eDirectory instance of a root-installed eDirectory during startup/shutdown. The time has come to overcome that.
