Using SecureLogin to measure login times

This document outlines an example of how to record workstation login times with SecureLogin.

You can't improve login times without measuring how long they are taking. So if you have users complaining about long login times or if you are working on a project to reduce workstation login times the first thing you need to find is a way of measuring and recording how long the logins are taking and this doc is one possible solution to this.

Allow a user to log in when their home directory is missing

If you administer Linux machines where the home directories are mounted from remote servers then you may have experienced the annoying situation where one of those servers goes down for some reason and as a result some people can't log in to the Linux machines with a full GNOME session.

This guide explains how to configure machines running SLED 11 to allow a user to log in with a full GNOME session even when their home directory cannot be mounted from the remote sever.
