Blog Entry
It's been a few weeks since I posted anything and this time I have no excuse. This post is going to be a little random as I have lots to update you with. Firstly - DST. Aaaargh! I have no idea what happened, noone seemed to care much about it in 2006 then, come New Year, everyone wants to know whats going on. I posted on it a few times last year and Ken brought it up again this week.
Well, we went into the Novell Open Audio Suite this week and recorded a GW Alert Podcast for everyone - we also linked to a document and sample email that you can use to help relieve some of this pain. You can use the sample email to explain the issue to your users and include the document to walk them through setting up a search folder to identify the appointments that they may need to resend.
Next - I'm going to be helping out on a Brainshare session, along with Martin Irwin and Ron van Herk talking about CPK's. This means that I need to get the GW CPK completed by then which, handily, will fall into the same kind of timeframe that we will be releasing GW7 SP2 (with the unless-something-very-bad-happens disclaimer on that). TUT254 is the session number - come and see it, it'll save you a fortune, so you can buy more beer.
New releases:
We posted the updated Novell GroupWise 7 Exchange Gateway SP1 (the name is something like that anyway, feel free to rearrange the words so they make more sense). It supports bidirectional busy searching (Ex 2000 and 2003), HTML and internet addressing. So throw away those old MS GW Connectors.
We are also going to be posting an updating PST Import utility - actually, there are almost no fixes in it as all the fixes went into the MAPI code in the client - so if you plan to import any PST's make sure you are using the GW7 IR1 client.
In my other life as a NetMail support engineer I posted the 3.52E patch this week. It fixes some serious issues that the RevE FTFs caused. Actually I get the pleasure of supporting anything to do with email that Novell ships - Postfix? Me, Sendmail? Me, Evolution? Me, KMail, Mutt, MajorDomo, Mailman, Fetchmail, Cyrus, WU-Imap, other random mail stuff? Me. Yes, I feel bad for Me :) To be fair, there are a couple of us that support them all so we get to moan together.
Think that's it for now - just pay attention to the DST stuff, it matters and it's better to get it done sooner rather than later to minimize user impact.

That link requires a Brainshare login. Is there a way to view the session abstracts without a Brainshare login? It might help someone's last-minute registration go thru.

Oops- I did think about that but got it so quick I assumed it didn't - it must have logged me behind the scenes. Thanx Mr Buckley.

Alex, According to TID
Submitted by Lenny (not verified) on 7 February 2007 - 7:57am.
Alex,
According to TID 3540051 "Timezone change in US & Canada 2007 for Groupwise Mobile server"
a Patch is required for for the GMS server to update its internal tables with the new DST rules. The TID also mentions that Novell will be releasing updates for some of the clients. Any idea when this DST patch - new release for GMS is going to be released to the public given that we are less than 34 days to impact?
Thanks
Lenny

The plan is to ship the GMS
Submitted by Alex Evans (not verified) on 8 February 2007 - 1:32pm.
The plan is to ship the GMS update along with SP2 - scheduled for the end of the month. It's a little less important for this patch as you are usually only reading appts on your device, not creating them (as a general rule anyway) so they will get fixed up once the patch is applied.
