Executive Bios

Bob Flynn, President and General Manager
Attachmate and Novell Business Units

Bob Flynn oversees day-to-day operations for the Attachmate and Novell business units. His role comprises product development, management, and marketing, as well as technical support, sales, and sales operations. He is responsible for the overall goals, strategies, and decision making that impact business-unit financial results, employee morale, and customer satisfaction.

Bob joined Attachmate in 1998 following a 17-year career with IBM in numerous management and executive positions, specializing in service and support for large enterprise environments. At IBM, he led global multi-million-dollar consulting engagements at Fortune 100 companies, directed and redefined key internal IBM processes, and managed a region-wide $500 million services division.

He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Oregon State University.


Dave Wilkes, Vice President, Engineering

Dave Wilkes is responsible for driving development and innovation efforts at Novell and leads the engineering and architecture team for the organization's collaboration, data management and endpoint management solutions.

Wilkes has been with Novell since 1991, working in various engineering roles focused on Novell global brands such as NetWare®, Open Enterprise Server, GroupWise® and ZENworks®. Prior to Novell, he was a Software Engineer at Hewlett-Packard. With a management emphasis on driving product innovation while balancing business imperatives, Wilkes has successfully led teams through ramping up with near and off-shore sourcing and cross-team collaboration. Wilkes holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a minor in Math from Brigham Young University.


Eric Varness, Vice President, Product Management and Marketing
Attachmate and Novell Business Units

Eric Varness directs the Attachmate and Novell product marketing, product management, and marketing communications teams. He also serves as strategic director for technology solutions, establishing feature requirements and ensuring timely product releases.

With more than 17 years of technology management experience, Eric's career has included product marketing and management positions at DataChannel and Mosaix.

He earned a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Washington.


Juan Carlos Cerrutti, Vice President of North America Sales

Juan Carlos Cerrutti is the vice president of North America Sales at Novell. He is responsible for the commercial strategy, sales across routes and channels, and customer satisfaction for Novell in the US and Canada.

Cerrutti has more than 25 years of sales experience, and spent the past 18 years with Novell leading sales organizations and serving customers across North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Prior to joining Novell, Cerrutti worked in various marketing and sales roles in the telecommunications and computer industries for several Silicon Valley-based companies.

Cerrutti holds an MBA in Finance and International Business from Columbia University and graduated with a Mechanical and Industrial Engineering degree from Universidad Católica del Peru.


Dirk W. Schmidt, VP Novell Sales EMEA

Dirk W. Schmidt has been representing the Novell business unit as part of the Attachmate Group since April 2011 for Europe, Middle East and Africa. After a career in Tax and Corporate Law outside Novell, he joined the company in 1996 to manage Copyrights, Trademarks and the Central European legal affairs.

He has served in a variety of positions and assumed responsibility for Novell EMEA Field Operations in 2004 as a member of the EMEA Management Team. He has taken on responsibility for Novell's Maintenance business EMEA in 2007 and was appointed Vice President End User Computing und TeleWeb Sales EMEA in 2009.

With the acquisition of Novell by Attachmate, Dirk W. Schmidt is now accountable for Novell sales in the EMEA market. Novell remains committed to providing value for customers and delivering high quality IT solutions integrated into a broader solution set offered by the Attachmate Group.


Boris Ivancic, Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific
Attachmate, Novell, NetIQ, and SUSE Business Units

Boris Ivancic is responsible for all activities across The Attachmate Group business units in the Asia Pacific region, including Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, India, and Singapore.

Prior to joining Attachmate in 1999, Boris was the sales director in charge of Australia and New Zealand for Lotus Development. He also held various sales and channel management roles with Compaq.

Boris earned an electrical engineering degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.


Edwin Bowman, General Manager, Latin America
Attachmate, Novell, NetIQ, and SUSE Business Units

Edwin Bowman is responsible for all activities across The Attachmate Group business units in Mexico, Central America, and South America. He brings nearly 20 years of IT experience, along with a strong focus on customers and results, to this position.

Before joining Attachmate in 1999, Edwin was national sales director for NCR Corporation, where he spent six years.

He holds management, finance, and MBA degrees, as well as a business Spanish certificate, from the University of Cincinnati.


John Delk, Vice President, Strategic Accounts, Partners & Alliances

As vice president of Strategic Accounts, Partners & Alliances for Novell, John Delk is responsible for leading the Strategic Accounts, Service Providers, Global Alliances and the Americas Partner Organization teams.

Prior to joining NetIQ, Delk held a number of management positions at Novell. He lead the field teams focused on the company's Data Center Solutions, including solutions for SUSE Linux Enterprise, data center consolidation and optimization, virtualization and cloud management. He previously served as vice president at EDS and managing partner at BearingPoint/KPMG Consulting where he was responsible for leading teams that developed industry-leading capabilities focused on effective use of technology for enterprise customers in the finance and telecommunications industry verticals.

Delk holds an MS degree in Computer Science from Georgia Tech and a Bachelors degree in Math and Computer Science from Furman University.


Katherine Tate, Vice President, Global Sales Operations
Attachmate and Novell Business Units

With responsibility for the Attachmate and Novell global sales operations teams, Katherine Tate oversees the processes that ensure smooth business transactions for customers, partners, and field sales. She also spearheaded the effort to define the vision, mission, and beliefs framework used by all business units across The Attachmate Group.

In addition to sales operations, Katherine's 21-year career at Attachmate has spanned technical support, consulting, sales tools, and training. Prior to Attachmate, she was an HP3000 systems manager at the University of Maryland and a technical editor at MYU Research.

Katherine has a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Idaho as well as an MBA with an emphasis on technology management from the University of Washington.
