Lenovo and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop – Delivered to your Door
January 15th, 2008 by John Dragoon
Last August 6, we announced with Lenovo an agreement to provide preloaded SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 on select Lenovo Thinkpad notebook PCs – with complete support from Lenovo and Novell. Today, Lenovo and Novell are making that agreement a reality. Our position has been and continues to be that Linux is the optimal platform for enterprise computing – desktop to data center. Today’s announcement is another important milestone in making deployment and use of Linux as easy and integrated as possible.
I’ll not get into the entertaining but meaningless conjecture on whether 2008 is the year of “Linux on the desktop”. It is clear that for mainstream and corporate adoption of Linux on the desktop to occur it has to be a whole lot easier to acquire, use and support. Customers are demanding an integrated Linux experience and that’s precisely what Lenovo and Novell are jointly delivering with today’s announcement. And it’s no coincidence that a company focused on enterprise class mobile computing platforms has chosen the leader in enterprise class Linux for its first commercial Linux preload.
We’re proud of our partnership with Lenovo. We’ll continue to focus on making sure the benefits of Linux are easy to enjoy.
