BrainShare Returns!

Last December we took the difficult but correct decision to cancel Novell’s premier user and technical training conference – BrainShare. While most of our customers, partners and employees understood and supported the decision, there was a clear demand and passion for the event to return in 2010.
It’s with great excitement that we are announcing the return of BrainShare in 2010. Not only will BrainShare return to Salt Lake City, Utah where it’s been for more than 20 years but after a five year hiatus, we will be holding a BrainShare EMEA event as well. Our customers told us loud and clear that they viewed BrainShare as a critical component of their overall education and training on all things Novell. They also told us what they liked and didn’t like about the event. Accordingly, as we bring BrainShare back, we’ll make sure it remains the best forum for technical training and education. We’ll also assure that we and our partners offer the hands on experiences and real life case studies that help our customers get the most out of their Novell investments.
Our Salt Lake City BrainShare will take place from Sunday, March 21 through Thursday, March 25, 2010. Our BrainShare EMEA event will take place in May, 2010 with the exact dates and location to be finalized in the coming weeks.
BrainShare is a Novell institution and an event that every Novell employee contributes to and takes pride in. We are truly excited about the return of this marquee conference to Salt Lake City and Europe and look forward to seeing many of you next year.

This is really excellent news !!! It is REALLY, REALLY great to see BrainShare back !!!
Frankly, I was devastated when the 2009 event was canceled, not having an event in South Africa I had approval to make the trip over to the SLC one, so when it was canceled – well … that is all history.
I’ll certainly be looking at the USA event closely and seeing if I can manage to get there somehow, or failing that maybe the EMEA one later in the year.
I think is a positive move from Novell to bring BrainShare back and I certainly hope it lives up to past events, with Mike and his team working hard on it; I have no doubt it will !!

Indeed great news!
Not only US, but Europe as well: fantastic!
Any particular reason for March and May instead of March and September as we had in the 2004 and 2005?
Having 6 months between BS US and BS Euro will give room for new news at both events tempting people to visit both events.
Regardless of the dates: I’m really really happy with this!

Raymond, very much appreciate the support and passion! As to your question, we felt holding Brainshare EMEA relatively close to our March Brainshare event would allow us to leverage most of the content created for the March….I hope to see you at one of the Brainshares…if you go please stop by and introduce yourself.

Although BrainShare 2010 is ON, the underlying condition of the economy is not better than last year and it is getting worse in certain respects, especially with regard to unemployment.
Unless Novell cuts the BrainShare 2010 fee in half to say $895 or offers steep discounts to partners I don’t see how 5000+ people will be able to afford to attend. There are fewer flights being scheduled and the airlines are raising prices. So no savings there. I’m not sure how hotel rates are trending in SLC and for partners there is always the lost billing revenue to take into consideration.
So I give Mr. Dragoon’s announcement mixed reviews…I just don’t see how registrations will ever return to what they once were. I’ve been to 3 BrainShares over the years and while I’ve enjoyed to opportunity in the past, I can’t see how I can possibly afford to attend anymore.
