What Types of Tips Can I Submit?

We're looking for all kinds of tips. If youve figured out how to do something that you feel would be helpful to the community, please pass it along.

Who Can Write a Tip?

Anyone proficient in some aspect of network computingsuch as test engineers, support engineers, trainers or consultantscan write a tip. Submissions need to be tied to Novell products and technology and must be technical in nature.

How Long Should a Tip Be?

While there is no length requirements for tips, many of our best ones are quite short. If your submission is over 2,000 words, please consider submitting an article.

Is There a Standard Structure or Template to Follow?

Generally, each tip is composed of the following pieces:

  1. Title, author, and product information. This includes the title of the tip, the product on which the article focuses and information about yourself: your name, your photo, your job title and your company. Be sure to let us know if you prefer to leave this information unpublished.
  2. Problem. This is an overview of the issue this tip solves.
  3. Solution. This explains how to resolve and fix the problem.

What Style of Writing Should I Use?

Above all, tips must be easy to read. Your style should be succinct yet conversational. In addition, please consider the accessibility of the information you use. The material should be presented in a way that makes skimming and locating particular information easy for the reader.

Should I Use Graphics?

Yes! When appropriate, graphics can enhance your writing. Graphics can include screenshots, network diagrams, conceptual illustrations, tables, charts and even scanned photographs.
