Taking the Show on the Road

Novell ATT Live Goes Live in Las Vegas

  • Audio

What's ATT Live, you ask? No, it's not a phone company help line; rather it's intense, hands-on training delivered by engineers for engineers! Of all the Novell training options, Novell Advanced Technical Training (ATT) has always delivered the most in-depth, detailed training experience you can find. Although our other training options, such as self-study, meet particular needs well, research reveals that classroom-based training still yields the best overall results in critical areas. (See Figure 1.) With hands-on training, engineer-to-engineer instruction and a troubleshooting emphasis, you can't go wrong with ATT Live and its real-time, in-class experience.

Now imagine several days packed with this kind of training. In the past, this in-class experience has only been offered at ATT Live conferences at the Novell Provo campus. But this year, from December 14-17, our training conference will be held at the Ritz-Carlton in Lake Las Vegas, Nevada. This promises to be the training event of the year, and now Novell ATT Live 2009 is on the road for the first time ever!

Why Should You Be There?

ATT Live comprehensively addresses a wide range of advanced topics including support issues, in-depth architectural overviews and enterprise-wide solutions. Because we deliver this training to you at a highly technical level, ATT Live classes give you real-world expertise you can put to immediate use. As you consider your training needs and budgets, this is an experience you really should consider for yourself and your IT staff if you want to stay on top of your game and help your business be as competitive as possible.

So, if you're a server or network administrator; network engineer; consultant; or someone who just needs advanced technical, hands-on training direct from the source; you shouldn't miss this event. But be prepared-before attending, you should have experience installing and working with the products you'll be taking the classes on. This conference is NOT for total beginners! Still, beginning classes are taught if you're looking to cross train into other Novell technologies.

What Will You Learn?

ATT Live provides heads-down, hands-on training on how to effectively use the Novell applications you use or maybe plan to use. It's not the usual 100-foot marketing view. Instead, with 18 veteran Novell instructors presenting live classes, it's the deep and dirty technical training you've come to love from Novell.

During our four days of solid technical training, more than 80 sessions will be offered, 50 of them brand new. Topics in the advanced classes include:

  • ZENworks
  • Identity Manager
  • SUSE Linux
  • Open Enterprise Server 2
  • GroupWise 8
  • Teaming + Conferencing
  • and more

All the needed hardware is provided for the hands-on training, and you'll get a CD containing all conference presentations, not just the ones you're able to attend in person. Another upgrade we've made for this conference is the session length. We've made most sessions longer this year to allow ample time to finish the labs, while just a couple of sessions are slightly shorter to accommodate the keynotes. And we limit conference attendance to only 200 attendees, which means smaller classes and that translates into more personalized instruction.

How Will I Benefit?

Live instructors allow for real-time and in-person questions and answers. No other format can beat this for detailed training.

In addition, ATT Live is surprisingly cost-effective. By attending the Las Vegas event, you can save almost the full cost of the conference itself: If you register with the early-bird discount, four full days of classroom instruction will only cost $1,345.50. That's even less than half of the normal cost of attending a four-day, hands-on class that costs $2,900. And the cost of four days of online modules is $2,800.

Because this year's venue is 20 minutes from the Las Vegas strip, the location itself is an added benefit. If you're not particularly attracted to the city's night life, the site is removed enough that it won't be a distraction. But if you're looking for a welcome break after a day of intense training, fun is just minutes away!

And the Other Highlights?

Keynote speakers at this year's conference include Joe "Zonker" Brockmier and Laura Chappell. Joe is known as "the openSUSE guy" and promises to be an informative speaker. Known to her loyal followers as "the Packet Nazi," Laura writes, lectures and advises on network troubleshooting, optimization and security. Trusted by the world's top companies and governments, she delivers presentations that are lively, very entertaining and are consistently the most highly attended and rated sessions at any technical conference.

As noted above, the site of this year's conference in Las Vegas provides easy access not only to the Las Vegas airport but also to many of the city's unique entertainment opportunities.

In addition to these, the hotel itself is an added attraction. A 5-star hotel, the Ritz-Carlton offers full amenities, including WiFi & high-speed Internet access during the conference so you can manage your day jobs during the breaks. Evening activities are produced by event sponsors, so check the ATT Live Web site for details.

Furthermore, the hotel is offering the incredible extended rate of $109, which includes the $25 daily resort fee. These rates are good from Dec 8 - 20, to let you "come early-stay late" to enjoy the town. Taking advantage of these special rates could save you $450, during which time you can enjoy preferred golf rates at The Falls and Reflection Bay golf club and driving range, access to a private white sand beach, and other 5-star hotel amenities
