BrainStorm Cool Tip: Make a Misbehaving Program Quit
You'll probably never need this tip because Linux programs rarely freeze (that's one of the perks of using Novell Linux Desktop), but you didn't need your teddy bear to sleep when you were five, either. Some things in life are just there to make you feel more secure. Follow the steps below to feel more secure about making a misbehaving program quit in Novell Linux Desktop without using the command line:
Adding the Force Quit Applet to a Panel
- Right-click a blank space on your panel.
- Select Add to Panel | Activities | Force Quit.

- The Force Quit icon will appear on your panel.

Quitting a Frozen Program using Force Quit
- Click the Force Quit icon on your panel.
- A dialog box will appear giving you the option to press ESC to cancel or to click an open window to force the application to quit.

- Click somewhere on the frozen window you wish to quit.
- Click the Force Quit button in the dialog box that appears.

- The program will close without saving any open documents.
Conclusion
Whether it's monsters in the closet or just the possibility of a program freezing, you can now feel more secure with the Force Quit applet added to your panel and a sword-wielding teddy bear on your pillow.more BrainStorm cool tips

- Could not find on suse 9.1 professional also searched yast install and remove software for force quit but found nothing.
- To the person who couldn't find it in his menu: are you running gnome? I don't have it either but I only load KDE. The author might have also mentioned the use of the kill command at the shell prompt. kill -9 will kill darn near any process, no questions asked.
