Welcome to BrainStorm Cool Tips. New tips will be posted regularly to help you more effectively use Novell Linux Desktop. If you have any suggestions for tips, please feel free to let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
You can use Nautilus, the Novell Linux Desktop file manager in two modes: Spatial or Browser. In spatial mode, each folder or file opens in a new window. In browser mode, you can view files and folders in one location.
Although some people prefer the more Macintosh-like spatial mode, former MS Windows users may want to use browser mode, which is more like Windows Explorer. When you double-click a file or folder in Novell Linux Desktop it automatically shows you files in spatial mode by opening a new window for each folder. Follow the steps below to change your preferences to show files in browser mode when you double-click:
- Double-click a file or directory to open it.
- From this window, select Edit -> Preferences.
- Click the Behavior tab.
- Check the Do not open a new window for each folder box.
- Click Close.
- Double-click a folder in the window to make sure that it opens in browser mode.
If you don't want to change your preferences, but still want to open a folder in browser mode, right-click the folder and select Browse Folder.
