The Desktop Multiplier, powered by Userful, enables up to 10 users to share a single SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop computer. Your desktop can now be stored securely in a data centre up to 250 metres (820 feet) away using a rack-mounted Cubix LaserStation Prism L system.
How the Cubix LaserStation Prism System Works
User stations connect to a Cubix P100 device that hosts up to 10 video cards and 10 USB ports for keyboards, mice, headsets and other peripherals. Keyboards or monitors with integrated USB ports for mice, card scanners, audio headsets or USB memory keys are recommended to reduce cabling.
The Cubix P100 "intermediate box" connects back to the Cubix LaserStation system via a fibre optic cable up to 250 metres (820 feet) away). Each user's desktop operates independently, providing secure and private access to Linux desktop applications such as OpenOffice, GroupWise, Firefox and other corporate or education applications.
Multiplied Linux Desktop Strategy
Compared to stand-alone desktop computers, the Desktop Multiplier for SLED 10 running on a LaserStation Prism L can save you up to:
- 80% on initial hardware and software acquisition costs
- 90% long-term management savings per user
Instead of buying ten computers, buy one LaserStation computer and a Cubix P100 with 10 graphics ports and USB ports. The benefit, as with LaserStation P/C, is a better managed, aesthetically improved system that is quieter, more energy efficient, and features completely secure architecture. Omni customers who deploy LaserStation receive all this, plus the added cost benefits of the Desktop Multiplier which are significantly lower than ten stand-alone PCs.
