Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV or just DAV) is an extension of the HTTP/1.1 protocol that is supported by both NetWare 6 and NetWare 5.1. WebDAV is designed to expand the scope of the HTTP protocol and allow users to edit and manage files over the web (instead of merely reading them).
WebDAV opens a world of opportunity to information managers who want to give their knowledge workers the power to collaborate and do work over the web.
Here are a few of WebDAV's high-profile features:
- Enables file locking to prevent team members from overwriting each other's changes.
- Allows users to mount a WebDAV volume on the desktop and access, edit, and manage any of the files in the volume as if they were on a local drive.
To implement WebDAV on your NetWare servers, (or to just learn more) there's a new Deployment Guide written just for you: http://www.novell.com/info/collateral/docs/4621211.01/4621211.pdf
