Version: ZENworks for Desktops 3

Editor's Note: Jason is an engineer in Novell Education who presents Advanced Technical Training for ZfD3. He has received a large number of requests from people who want to install ZFD3 and SP1 at the same time, so he figured it out and shared this Cool Solutions with us. Thanks, Jason!

Important Update: After we had published this article, engineering sent some additional information that changed the last step of the process. We have edited the article to reflect the change.

The purpose of this document is to provide the necessary steps for consolidating the installation of ZENworks for Desktops 3 and the Service Pack 1 installation. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Copy to ZENworks for Desktops 3 Program CD to a location on your hard drive or the network.
  2. Extract SP1 to a separate directory.
  3. From the ZENworks\Products\AppMgmt directory of the Service Pack copy all of the files and directories except SIZES.TXT, AOTFILES.TXT, and APPOBJ.TXT to the same directory on the ZENworks for Desktops 3 program location.
  4. From the ZENworks\Products\AutoWrkSta directory of the Service Pack copy all of the directories to the same directory on the ZENworks for Desktops 3 program location. DO NOT COPY ANY OF THE .TXT FILES IN THIS DIRECTORY.
  5. From the ZENworks\Products\Core directory of the Service Pack copy all of the directories and the two .SCH files to the same directory on the ZENworks for Desktops 3 program location. DO NOT COPY ANY OF THE .TXT FILES IN THIS DIRECTORY.
  6. From the ZENworks\Products\Database directory of the Service Pack copy all of the directories to the same directory on the ZENworks for Desktops 3 program location. DO NOT COPY ANY OF THE .TXT FILES IN THIS DIRECTORY.
  7. From the ZENworks\Products\Imaging directory of the Service Pack copy all of the directories to the same directory on the ZENworks for Desktops 3 program location. DO NOT COPY ANY OF THE .TXT FILES IN THIS DIRECTORY.
  8. From the ZENworks\Products\RemMgmt directory of the Service Pack copy all of the directories to the same directory on the ZENworks for Desktops 3 program location. DO NOT COPY ANY OF THE .TXT FILES IN THIS DIRECTORY.
  9. From the ZENworks\Products\Rem-Inv directory of the Service Pack copy all of the directories to the same directory on the ZENworks for Desktops 3 program location. DO NOT COPY ANY OF THE .TXT FILES IN THIS DIRECTORY.
  10. From the ZENworks\Products\SwHwInv directory of the Service Pack copy all of the directories to the same directory on the ZENworks for Desktops 3 program location. DO NOT COPY ANY OF THE .TXT FILES IN THIS DIRECTORY.
  11. From the ZENworks\Products\WkStaMgmt directory of the Service Pack copy all of the directories to the same directory on the ZENworks for Desktops 3 program location. DO NOT COPY ANY OF THE .TXT FILES IN THIS DIRECTORY.
  12. From the ZENworks\Products copy the SP.INI file to the same directory on the ZENworks for Desktops 3 program location.
  13. Now you can either recut the CD or install from the combined location.
  14. When the installation is complete you need to make a change to each ZENwork Inventory Service object, the objects with the name "<Server Name>_ZenInvService". To do this:
    1. Start a version of ConsoleOne that does not have the ZENworks for Desktops 3 snap-ins installed.
    2. Go to the properties of the ZenInvService object for the server that you just installed.
    3. On the Other tab, click Add.
    4. Set ZENINVComponentStatus = 01 to 3.1 01 and click OK.
    1. Click the button to the right of the field that appears, this takes you to a hex editor.
    2. Press Insert to select Typeover mode.
    3. For the value enter 01.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Click OK.

This installation of ZENworks for Desktops w/ SP1 is now complete.
