Current version: ZENworks for Desktops 3.2

To enable Workstation Manager Tracing on Windows 9x, open the registry to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Novell\Workstation Manager. With Workstation Manager selected in the left window, right click in the right window and select New, DWORD value. The value name is DoTrace. The value data is 1. An option for "Trace Window" will be available when right-clicking on the Novell Desktop Management icon in the System Tray. When "Trace Window" is selected, an additional window will appear tracing the activity of Workstation Manager.

NOTE: This will not create a log file. To capture the information in the "Trace Window," copy the contents of the Trace Window and paste them into a document.

To enable Workstation Manager Logging on Windows 9x, open the registry to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Novell\Workstation Manager. With Workstation Manager selected in the left window, right click in the right window and select New, DWORD value. The value name is DoLog. The value data is 1. This will create log files for the following Workstation Manager helpers:

  • C:\wm95.log
  • C:\Novell\Client32\wm95roam.log
  • C:\Novell\Client32\wm95pm.log
  • C:\Novell\Client32\wm95usp.log

To interpret the DS error codes returned by Workstation Manager Tracing, find the error code in the trace window and convert the hex into the actual DS error code. For example, given the error:

ReadNDSActionData FAILED 0xfffffda5

  1. Strip off the 0x, take the first four digits (ffff in hex), convert the hex to 65535 decimal.
  2. Take the last four digits (fda5 in hex), convert the hex to 64933 decimal.
  3. Subtract 65535 - 64933 = 602 then add 1 = DS error code 603 (-603 FFFFFDA5 NO SUCH ATTRIBUTE).

The same 0xfffffda5 error might be displayed as the decimal 4294966693 as seen in the return code:

GetAttributeValue failed, ccode: 4294966693

To translate this decimal number into a DS error code, run Calc.exe, copy this number into Calc.exe and convert it to hex which is FFFFFDA5, then follow steps 1 through 3 above.
