Cool Solutions has gathered a lot of eDirectory tools over the past few years. Many are free, some are shareware, and some are eval copies of commercial products. Each week we feature a new set of tools from the Novell eDirectory Cool Tools grab bag.

This week's featured Novell eDirectory tools:
Remote Management - Remote management of workstation without using ConsoleOne.

There is a new feature added in this tool: now you can browse an eDirectory tree to find persons or workstations. There is a simple install program; just run Remote.exe and follow by the instructions.
ServerSpy - Utility to monitor Novell server usage.
Freeware by Frank Kusluski
Contents: .exe with setup files
Notes: Review important statistics such as CPU usage, average CPU usage, CPU peak usage, connections in use, maximum connections ever used, uptime, maximum volumes, and much more. With ServerSpy you can easily determine which file servers are the busiest and least busy allowing you to distribute the workload more effectively and efficiently. You can also see and set server times, send server statistics to Clipboard, and configure ServerSpy to alert you when a server's CPU average usage has exceeded a specific percentage or a server has gone down.
NPrinter 1.0 - Use NPRINTER on Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Freeware by Funk Gabor
Contents: .zip file with application and support files
Notes: It IS possible to use NPRINTER on Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Default Printer GUI - GUI which allows roaming users to select a default printer.
Freeware by Nicholas Lemberger
Contents: .zip file with application, VB scripts, and readme file
Notes: This script uses the GooeyScript.exe ActiveX control to display a list of printers. The user can then click a printer in the list to make it their default. This is useful in a Terminal Server environment with roaming users and in roaming user kiosk settings. I make this part of the Windows Group Policy logon script (example included) for the roaming user and they are presented with a list of printers. This lets them change the printer even if they can't view the printer control panel due to policy restriction.
Portlock Linux Boot CD - Comprehensive tool for managing storage on DOS, Linux, NetWare and Windows systems
Freeware by Portlock Software

Notes: This is a bootable Live CD ISO image that includes Portlock Storage Manager and is designed to support server class machines such as Compaq, Dell, HP, IBM, etc. Autoconfigures both storage and networking. Makes a perfect solutionfor restoring NetWare servers when the booting OS is broken or for bare-metal restores.
