Featured eDirectory Tools - September 29, 2004

This week's featured Novell eDirectory tools:

Management

PIKT - Cross-categorical, multi-purpose toolkit for common systems administration tasks
Open-source GPL by Robert Osterlund
Contents: .tar file for Linux
Notes: PIKT is a cross-categorical, multi-purpose toolkit to monitor and configure computer systems, organize system security, format documents, assist command-line work, and perform other common systems administration tasks.

WSName 2.72a - Workstation renaming tool
Freeware by David Clarke
Contents: .zip with .exe file
Notes: WSName helps you change the name of workstations (both NetBIOS and Host). Operating Systems: Windows 9x, NT4, 2000, and XP.

Password

ndspasswd - UNIX/Linux command line tool to change NDS password and UNIX/Linux login shell
Freeware by Ryan Anderson
Contents: Link to ndspasswd script file
Notes: Useful with UNIX/Linux clients that use eDirectory for LDAP authentication or rely on the DirXML driver for NIS/NIS+. ndspasswd mimics and replaces functionality of yppasswd. Can be used on any UNIX/Linux platform supported by eDirectory (tested on Solaris & Linux with eDirectory 8.7.3).

Check LDAP Password and Change Domain Password - Allows a user who knows thier NDS password to change their NT-Domain/AD Password.
Freeware by Lance Ripps
Contents: .zip file support and program files
Notes: This is an ASP web page to allow a user who knows his NDS/LDAP username and password to change the password of that username in an NT domain. I created this app to get over the problem encountered when installing DIRXML and Novel password Sync where there were users knew thier NDS password but had not yet syncronized that with the new Domain. This greatly reduced the number of help desk calls, as the users were able to manage the initial password sync themselves.

Other

CLAW (Contextless Login Application for Web Interface) - Simplifies, secures and enhances your Citrix Web Interface installation by providing fast LDAP contextless login without the need for a Novell Client.
Freeware by Novell and Centralis
Contents: .zip with script, support, and readme files
Notes: Novell and Centralis announce the joint development of CLAW (Contextless Login Application for Web Interface). CLAW simplifies, secures and enhances your Citrix Web Interface installation by providing fast LDAP contextless login without the need for a Novell Client. This solution is compatible with Citrix Web Interface Version 2.0.

Office User Information - Populates Microsoft Office User Information from a user's eDirectory attributes.
Freeware by Bryan Keadle
Contents: .zip .exe and readme files
Notes: This program imports the user's NDS information into the registry so that the user information correctly reflects the user information stored in NDS. It simply reads the user attributes: "Given Name", "SurName", and "Initials", converts them to the binary equivalent and populates the registry entries.
