In a recent Advisor magazine article, Matt Smith spoke with Novell's GroupWise Product Manager, Howard Tayler to learn more about GroupWise 6.5.

Here's an excerpt:

Version 6.5 of the Novell GroupWise messaging platform will be available in the first quarter of 2003. In this update to the platform, Novell focused on the mail client. Citing customer comments that the user interface hasn't changed significantly in a long time, the company redesigned it to help users manage contacts, priorities, and workload. Other updates target system administrators -- for example, the company has opened up the message store with APIs so that other applications can "speak" with GroupWise.

GroupWise includes tools for e-mail, calendaring, contact and document management, and workflow services. It runs across network operating systems such as Novell NetWare and Windows NT/2000. GroupWise users can access information via desktop and laptop computers, Web browsers, wireless telephones, PDAs, and RIM handhelds.

GroupWise 6.5 introduces behind-the-firewall instant messaging (IM) communications to protect employee IM conversations. Customers who buy or upgrade to version 6.5 will also be able to filter out junk e-mail more effectively.
