Review the following system requirements to ensure that your server and client environments meet installation prerequisites:

iChain Proxy Server Requirements

iChain 1.5 required an approved proxy appliance to run on. With iChain 2.0, this restriction no longer applies. iChain 2.0 is a self-contained install and does not require licensed hardware to run. (iChain 2.0, however, will install and run on any proxy appliance that was approved for iChain 1.5.) A hardware certification program is being put in place that will identify other hardware that iChain will run on.

General guidelines for iChain 2.0 are as follows:

  • A minimum of 256 MB of memory is required
  • SMP is not supported
  • Three or more LAN adapters should be used
NOTE: Hardware issues that have been logged have almost always related to disk or LAN adapter drivers. If no matching drivers are found, multiple matching drivers are found, or other manual parameter input is needed during driver configuration, the install will hang (infinite dots). Included drivers for disk arrays are limited. If the iChain Proxy Server installs and the Mini Web Server can be configured and accessed correctly, then the hardware should be fully compatible.

iChain Authorization Server Requirements

The iChain authorization server can be installed on the following NDS eDirectory™ version 8.5 platforms:

  • NetWareŽ 5.1 with Support Pack 1
  • Windows* NT* 4.0 Support Pack 4

For additional information on the supported platforms and system requirements for NDS eDirectory version 8.5, refer to the NDS eDirectory 8.5 Quick Start available at the Novell Documentation site.

For NetWare installations, verify the following:

  • Installation of iChain on a new, clean NetWare (NetWare 5.1 with Support Pack 1) server is recommended. Installation of the NDS eDirectory 8.5 component is required, but the following NetWare server components should not be installed:

    Print server
    FTP server
    Enterprise Web Server
    Web Search
    IBM* WebSphere* Application Server

  • The TCP/IP network interface on the server should be bound and configured.
  • LDAP should be configured on the server.

NOTE: For increased security, we recommend installing the iChain authorization server in a tree separate from your corporate file/print tree. DirXML can be used to synchronize user account information between trees if desired.

We also recommend that the authorization server should be the first server in the tree so it contains the master replica of the tree.

Administrator Workstation Requirements

The administrator workstation requirements are as follows:

  • Pentium* 233 MHz processor or higher
  • Minimum 35 MB of free disk space
  • Minimum 128 MB of RAM
  • One LAN card
  • Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows 2000
  • Current Service Pack for Windows
  • Current Novell ClientTM
  • IP Connectivity between the client, the iChain authorization server, and the iChain Proxy Services server
