How can I get my bootsplash working?

Q:
Where does the kernel get the boot splash image from and can I get it working without re-installing from CD? I guess it is on the initrd somewhere ?

A:
It's part of the initrd; if your bootloader's "kernel ..." line contains a "vga=0xwhatsoever" parameter, you can now simply rebuild the initrd running "mkinitrd" as root. If it doesn't, you can force inclusion of the required files by specifying the desired resolution on the command line; ie., use "mkinitrd -s 1400x1050" or something like it.
