Notifying users of lockouts

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Posted: 17 Feb 2005

Q:
We have a number of 3rd-party applications, such as Jabber, that do not alert the user when the Intruder Lockout Protection has been tripped. Since the users never knows this, they just keep attempting to log in. Eventually they get frustrated and give up on the application forever. What can we do about this?

A:
We used the Manual Process driver in IDM2 to watch the LockedByIntruder attribute on the subscriber channel of the driver. Then the driver generates an e-mail using the object's mail attribute to alert the user that the account is locked, and that it will remain locked for 30 minutes.
