Multiple eDirectory driver instances

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Q:
Our core IDM server will have multiple instances of the eDir-eDir driver configured on it. Is it necessary to have each instance of the driver use a separate TCP port, or will the driver only load once and service all the configured instances that way? I could see where to change the port the driver would connect to, but couldn't see where to change the port the driver was listening on...

A:
Each instance has to have its own port. If a single port is specified, then it both listens on that port and tries to connect to the other tree on that port. If you specify a separate port (separated by a colon), then the first port is what it uses to connect to the other tree, and the second port is what it listens on. It's usually easiest just to use a single port per instance and make sure that the instance in the other tree that it is supposed to be talking to uses the same port.
