Q:
Is there a setting in NetWare that controls how far back Salvage will keep files? I know that they are purged when disk space gets low, but we have plenty of space.



A:
Yes. But if you have plenty of space then they should not be purged at all. Be sure that Salvage is turned on, and immediate purge is not. The default time for Salvage is two days (set in seconds). You can adjust that higher if you like.

Please note that if there is less than 20% free space NSS automatically purges salvageable files, starting from the least recently deleted ones. This 20% is hard-coded and cannot be changed. And TID 10082793 implies that newly deleted files are also purged immediately below the 20% free limit.
