Time Required for Installation

Q:
Approximately how long does it take to get iFolder installed and running on NetWare 5.1? We have 43 servers (most across WAN links) using NetWare 5.1, DS v8.73, SP2. According to the documentation, the servers require eDir 8.5 (I'm assuming 85.xx) and LDAP configured on the iFolder server(s). What is the minimum version of eDir that is required? If only eDir 8.0 is required, it would make the upgrade easier, since we wouldn't have to install eDir 85.

A:
The iFolder software only takes about 5-10 minutes to install. We would guess SP4 would take you 30 minutes and eDirectory would take 15 minutes. You're going to be fine with eDirectory 8 (and above); we just need an LDAP v3 compliant directory.

To speed things up, you need to decide whether you want to do LDAP over SSL (port 636), or LDAP cleartext (port 389). If the LDAP server is on the same box, then LDAP cleartext is fine. If the LDAP server is on a different server from the iFolder server, we would recommend LDAP over SSL. If you decide to do LDAP cleartext, you need to make sure that you have Clear text password enabled (this can be enabled during the install). If you decide to do LDAP over SSL, then you need to have the root certificate of the LDAP server copied over to the iFolder. This is typically found in sys:public and is named rootcert.der.

You will also need to know what contexts you want iFolder to search for users. Be prepared with that info, and things should zip right along.
