Restricting iFolder Users
Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer
Q:
We are an ISP and we'd like to provide iFolder as a value-add service that users would need to pay for. We need to restrict users who did not subscribe to the services from using iFolder. Are there any ways to stop users from using iFolder? The only way we can think of is to configure a specific context for iFolder and move users between iFolder and non-iFolder contexts based on their subscription. Is there an easier way?
A:
For now, that's your best bet. Another idea with iFolder 1.0 is to set the default space for an account to be something small, and then if somebody subscribes to the service, bump up their limit.
But if you can hang on for a few more days, help is on the way. The new iFolder 2.0 will solve that problem. It requires that you enable the user's account for access to iFolder before they can use it.
It's pretty slick. You can just enable everyone at once, or you can create a script that enables a user's account when they sign up for it. BTW, that's how they're going to do it on the iFolderdemo site. They are going to create a self registration script that will enable the user's account at the same time they sign up, which also creates an eDirectory User Object. This stuff just keeps getting better...
