Server application losing packets

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Q:
My company has just started using an application to send data securely to a client. This application relies on communication from the client's 6 IP addresses using any port greater than 1023. I have set up filters to allow any traffic from these 6 IP addresses to come in. However, the server application that runs on a PC (which has a fixed IP address) doesn't seem to get the packets. I think the traffic is hitting my public interface but doesn't know where to go there after.

A:
If the PC running the app is on the private side of NBM, then you need to

1) Add a secondary public IP address to the BM server
2) Statically-NAT this new public IP to the private IP of the PC running the app
3) Create filter exceptions that allow the necessary traffic, calling out the *private* IP address of the PC.
