Q:
Frequenty modifying GRUB boot parameters can cause a non-bootable system. Here's how to fix it when things go awry.
A:
Install /boot as its own partition using Reiser File System for journaling. I then back /boot off to a USB memory stick.
If I lose the system but still have good partitions, I boot using any boot CD (such as Knoppix) and then copy the data back to the /boot partition from the USB memory stick.
