We have just installed iFolder 2.0 on a NetWare 5.1 server running SP4 ds8.80d and LDAP. When we try to login to the management web page we are taken back to the main page and asked to login again if we try any management functions. It looks as though the iFolder Server MUST run NetWare 6 and eDirectory. Is this correct? Has anyone managed to sucessfully install iFolder 2 on NW51?

Sure, you can install it on NW 5.1. But as it says in the documentation, you must run eDirectory 8.6.1 or better on the LDAP server.
What you are describing is exactly what will happen if you just run DS8. The first time you log in, several new objects and classes are created and that fails on DS8.
