I'm trying to synchronize two eDirectory servers using the eDirectory
driver with Identity Manager. I used the default eDirectory driver configuration provided with the Identity Manager but got a -601 error.

That error usually means that you are trying to create on object in a container that doesn't exist yet. If you configured your eDirectory drivers to mirror hierarchy, then what you probably need to do is do a "migrate from eDirectory" on the root of the mirrored hierarchy from the source tree. If you configured flat or by-department placement, then you need to make sure all of the containers are already created.
Another possibility with any of these is that you entered the base dn incorrectly when you created the driver. If this is the case you could either start over or edit the placement and matching policies to correct the DN.
