My Desktop disappears in Gnome! What happened?

Q:
While using Gnome, the wallpaper disappears and all icons on the desktop disappear. Rebooting doesn't help.

A:
To fix it, open a console and type in

nautilus

And you should see everything re-appear. Yes, it's really that easy.
