What methods exist for getting help in Linux?

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Posted: 8 Jun 2005

Q:
If there's no phone number for support when something goes wrong, how do I get help when I need it in Linux?

A:
Without going into too much detail, let me just say there are ample resources for help in Linux. Here are a few resources:

  1. Documentation
  2. Mailing Lists
  3. IRC Channels
  4. Googling for answers
Because Linux is driven heavily by communities, when accessing the appropriate communities for your problems, you will usually be given answers much quicker than the usual phone call to tech support.
