I have got this all on different PC's What a head-bashing do I put myself in for.
My only sanity saving I have had is that I have been looking after Novell 3.1, 3.11, 4.11, 5, 5.1 working servers, also GroupWise and the lovely ZENworks 3 out in the workplace, running on Windows 98/2000 and XP workstations.
I'm trying to get a demo of 6 so I can have a look at getting to grips with this. I have been looking for something else what would be more stable, less prone to hackers and virus, and something that has nothing to do with Bill G.
I got from PC World here in the UK a copy of SUSE 9 Pro & Personal. This is for my lovely wife and myself. I am looking to replacing the operating systems at home with SUSE 9, as SUSE 9 is much like the PnP of Windows. Most if not all of the headware I have works first time running SUSE. So
my plan might be to format all hard disk drives and load on up SUSE 9.
Well, I'm keeping Windows 2000, and the rest of my little P4 systems running SUSE 9. The only problem I have is my wife.........She runs MS windows Apps - like she loves to play "The SI'mms" and she has also got "The Family Tree 2000" running on her Windows XP PC.
Now this is where the Dumb Question comes in (At long last you might say).
There is a system called Wine out there for Linux (SUSE 9.x) I have downloaded it and installed it from RPM packet from the WiNE HQ website. This installed OK. How do I now setup and get Wine to run the Windows Apps???
I have looked at some of the Wine websites and QnA's but after spending about 2 weeks reading them and trying them out I still don't have a clue on how to get Wine to work. Not Knowing how SUSE works yet but I'm picking it up.
P.S. I'm using my SUSE 9 and Kmail to sent this email.

I think a more robust option is to install Win4Lin. They have a new home user product for about $US30. Win4Lin allows one to install licensed copies of your Windows software onto the linux partition. Win4Lin runs as Windows in a Linux X window, crashing only that Window when Windows crashes.
