Stomfi, Hello. I'm a big fan of Novell and Linux, but unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of KDE. As a result I'm left a little out in the cold with the SUSE distribution. Yes, I know you've updated SUSE Linux Pro to the latest and greatest GNOME, but it still looks and feels like KDE. Is it possible to make SUSE look like NLD9? Or even better, is it possible to get an up to date version of Novell's Linux Desktop?
A:
Ha! Sometimes I wish GNOME did look and feel like KDE, especially when it comes to Konqueror, which I use in the GNOME interface as its got that nice drives feature, and the split window for cutting and pasting.
Actually, I still use FVWM for some jobs as I can use it to spread a graphic over enough work spaces to get 1 screen pixel to equal one scanned in dot without any icons, panel etc, getting in the way. By not being encumbered with fan preferences, I am able to be cool with any of them! As long as it works, does the job, and enhances personal productivity.
Of course, there are lots of ways to change Linux no matter who created the distro.
I am busy creating a new intro splash screen application for newbies, for setting up and running your own preferences and application program on startup.
You can always step around the SUSE version by uninstalling their version of GNOME and reinstalling the vanilla flavour from the GNOME.org site. There is a lot of help on doing this at the site. The main critera is to get rid of all the old files, and load the new ones in the right order.
To see info on the lastest version of NLD, check on the Novell web site.
