Q:
Hi Stomfi, I am having great difficulty trying to work out how to connect SUSE 9.2 to the internet via my Optus (Australia) Cable connection. I have a Motorola SB5100 connected via USB. I have searched numerous forums, even asked Optus but to no avail. Help.

A:

Forget the USB interface if you've got the choice, they seem to take up too many CPU cycles, and in any case its a pain to set up as you know. If it's only USB, go swap it for one with both USB and Ethernet, with 100/1000Mbps. If it's an ADSL it's probably got DHCP so set up your ethernet port to listen for its address; you can always set it statically later if your other networks need it. I expect you know the http://localhost:IPaddress ( mine is 10.0.0.138). If it's cable, I haven't got one out here in the swamps of Redland Bay, so I hope it uses TCP/IP and works the same). Of course I hope you've got a 1000Mbps Ethernet card so you can really take advantage of your interface speed. When you log on to your connection machine you should see your setup page so can fill in all the details to get the internet end working.

Kind regards, Stomfi
