Tracking pop-ups

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Q:
Does anyone know if pop-ups are flagged as sites visited in BorderManager? For example, if a user visited one site and that site had pop ups that opened windows for 2 more sites, would NBM flag that the user visited 3 sites?

A:
In general, yes. ANY "hit" (request for a page or object on a page) from a client to a web server is logged, since the client *did* get to that resource, whether the "user" manipluating the browser actually "told" it to or not.

Whether or not this shows up in a report depends on the tool analyzing the logs... some log analyzers simply read the raw contents, summarize everything and report it. These will NOT differentiate between "purposeful" visits and popus, redirects, etc.

The bottom line is that the raw proxy logs will show every request that browser made, period. It's up to the log analyzer to determine how to "count" those extraneous hits.
