NetWare 5.1 Printing Problem

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Q:

I have recently (I know that I am behind the times here) installed a NetWare 5.1 server into my home office based IntraNetWare 4.11 network. This is the second server in the tree, and I want to physically move my network attached printer (queue printing) to this 5.1 server.

I installed the Print Server, Print Queue and Printer objects onto the new server, and have deleted these references from my older server, which had a different Print Server Object but the same named Printer and Print Que Objects.

After restarting the new 5.1 server following these changes, I find that the Printer Console shows that the printer "is NOT CONNECTED" to the queue. I must have missed a step somewhere, but I sure cannot find it.

I have done physical testing of the printer attachment by printing to the printer from a dos prompt while the server is down.

I have checked all of the trustee and rights assignments and everything appears to be in order. (The configuration is identical to what was on the 4.11 server with the name of the actual print server being the only difference.

See if the following helps:

  1. In NWADMIN click Tools
  2. Select Print Services Quick Setup (Non-NDPS)
  3. Fill in all the info, or use the defaults.
  4. Click on the Communications button next to the Printer Type
  5. Make sure that AutoLoad is selected under Connection type

Click on Ok. And then click on Create. Once you load Pserver for that printer you should be good to go.
