Using GCV's in conditional statements

I'd like to "genericize" my AD driver as much as possible, and I'm substituting GCV's wherever I can in the rule "actions." But I find in the publisher channel I have a number of rule "conditions" containing text strings I'd like to replace. The problem is that there's no argument builder here. Is there a way to use GCV's in conditions?

If you put the name of your GCV inside an opening and closing tilde character, then you can use it tests. For example, the following works fine for me:
<if-src-dn op="not-in-container">~placement-location-in-active- directory~/if-src-dn>
