Moving complete containers

Novell Cool Solutions: Question & Answer

Posted: 4 Jan 2006

Q:
Has anyone moved complete containers with all objects within it (including servers, users, groups, ZEN Objects, etc.) to a completely different tree? Is there a utility that can help with this process?

A:
This could be messy, as there may be dependencies on objects in other containers -- and you wouldn't be able to readily move any of the SSL certs nor user passwords. One approach is to use LDIF to export much of the info and import it into the other tree. However, things like NCP Server and SSL certs can't be moved, as they are NICI-dependent.

If you are using Universal Password, you could use Identity Manager to move the user accounts, which will keep the passwords. You may also want to look at the new Migration Wizard/Server Consolidation.
