eDirectory on a Domain Controller

Q:
Is it sensible to install eDirectory on a Domain Controller, or would it be better on a Member server? The server will also have ZENworks and MS-SQL for Asset.
A:
eDirectory can run on a Domain Controller, with Windows 2K or 2003. The issue you will have doing so involves a port conflict with LDAP and LDAPS, which both eDirectory and AD (and every other LDAP implementation) implement by default. AD will probably win because it's built into the OS, but it is simple, and the install prompts you, to change the ports to (for instance) 390 and 637 (instead of 389, and 636). The only other worry is load - use a big box for a big environment.
